Nicky CroslandLeading Teacher for Early Years
Nicky Crosland
I have taught all age groups across key stage one since starting my teaching career in Sussex. Very early on in my career I was lucky to attend High Scope training, this ignited my interest in Early Years, I taught in Year R for a couple of years before having my own children. I had a brief career break and moved to Hampshire where I managed a pre-school. Since then, I have worked as a Year R teacher in a Winchester school until more recently I have been working for the Hampshire as an Early Years Advisory Teacher. This has been a great job which has allowed me to learn a lot, work with a wide range of passionate and amazing practitioners across many Early Years settings and schools. I have also written and led training across a number different aspect of Early Years practice. Â
I am excited to be able to come and work at Halterworth as Leading Teacher for Early Years and more widely across the trust sharing all the knowledge I have gained and using this to further enhance Early Years provision with a focus on learning through rich play experiences. I really enjoy working collaboratively sharing ideas and working to the strengths of every member of the team to provide the best possible start for the children in their school life. I always say to parents in Year R that our job is to enable the children to feel happy and confident to have a go and make mistakes, and from trusting relationships with adults and each other. With this in place learning will happen naturally.
